Ukrainian leaders contend that Russia’s latest appeal for dialogue lacks goodwill as it is coupled with increased military aggression. Russia’s aggressive military conduct, according to Kyiv, is accompanied by diplomatic rhetoric meant to beautify its image on the world stage. Luxembourg’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said so many times before, stating that real attempts at obtaining peace have to begin with active measures of putting an end to violence that go beyond mere words designed to fool the rest of the world.

Dmytro Kuleba the foreign affairs minister has also stated Ukraine sovereignty would not be compromised by holding offensive negotiations. Kuleba further stated that every Russian attempt at what they claim is diplomacy comes together with a fresh wave of missile strikes on civilian infrastructure across Ukrainian cities. According to him, this has been the case since the onset of the large scale invasion and remains to be the case until today.

Continuing Attacks and Escalation

Moscow may have credible diplomatic overtures however the reality is completely different. Ukrainian officials claim that missile and drone attacks from Russia continue to target several Ukrainian cities including the capital, Kharkiv, and Odessa, resulting in widespread damage and loss of life. In addition fighting in the Eastern regions remains fierce as Russia endeavors to expand their domain.

Attacks on energy plants and infrastructure have worsened Ukraine’s already difficult task of supplying electricity to millions. Ukrainian officials believe that the systematic evisceration of civilian infrastructure is aimed at crippling the Ukrainian economy and pivotal morale. There are growing concerns how Ukrainians will tackle perpetual lack of energy due to bombardment with missiles as winter nears.

Global Reaction

Russia’s bombardment is being condemned by Western Countries, they have also pledged military assistance, sanctions, and diplomatic scrutiny. The European Union, the United States, and NATO coalition members are in verbal support of Ukraine and are advocating for Russia’s cessation of hostilities. Other nations have sent more arms including protective missiles and drones which aid in interception of Russia’s missiles and drones.

On the other front, the United Nations is attempting to broker a new peace deal while these negotiations cannot occur prior conditions. Officials in Ukraine claim that Russia has defaulted on previous ceasefire agreements which casts doubts against new diplomatic negotiations absent of action.

Conclusion

Ukraine continues to believe that authentic peace can only be attained once Russia ceases its aggression militarily. The Ukrainian government has characterized Russia’s utterances regarding diplomacy as political obscurantism needing fulfillment, not declarations. With further onslaughts and growing international friction, Ukraine is steadfast in protecting its sovereignty until a true solution is achieved, beneficially together with its allies.
